THE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DESIGN CONCEPT
BALI, THE ISLAND OF THE GODS
Tuban, Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak, north of the airport along the west coast are the main shopping and nightlife areas, although in these areas traffic has become a problem and patience is of the essence in the ‘rush hours'. New roads and regulations to counter the problem are being developed and implemented throughout Bali.
Kerobokan and Canggu, further along the coast are fast becoming expatriate residential areas because of their proximity to the nightlife and shopping districts.
Ubud, about an hour and a half from the airport, is a more laid-back city in the hills, still with a residing monarchy and well known for the abundance of galleries and artists. Bedugul, further to the north about an hour and a half from the airport and in the center of Bali high up in the evergreen mountains, with its three scenic lakes and a cooler climate, also has an excellent golf course.
Singaraja and Lovina on the north coast are far more relaxed than the south coast, without the hustle and bustle of all the nightlife and discotheques. The sea is mostly very calm making it less interesting for the many surfers who populate the Kuta area, here diving and sailing are the main water sports activities, a marina is being planned for Lovina the destination of the yearly regatta from Australia to Indonesia.
